Northern Beaches Hospital – NSW, Australia

Northern Beaches Hospital is a state-of-the-art hospital located in Frenchs Forest, Sydney, Australia. It is the first hospital in NSW to achieve a 4 Star Green Star rating. This 488-bed facility provides various services from day surgery to intensive care units. Hospitals can be quite a busy environment, with the constant flow of movement from staff and patients, there is a high chance of the interior of the hospital being damaged, leaving the hospital looking very unpleasant. This is where wall protection is vital in reducing any damages to the walls.

Wall protection is an important aspect of any hospital building as it helps to prevent damage to walls, maintain cleanliness and hygiene, and ensure patient safety. Construction Specialties was honoured to be involved in supplying its Acrovyn products throughout the hospital.

Throughout the corridors, various wall protection products can be seen throughout the hospital, such as the handrails HRB10CN and the HRB20CMN, which is a ligature resistant handrail used to prevent patients from causing any harm. The purpose of the handrails is to provide support to patients, visitors, and staff. The handrails also help to prevent accidental collisions with walls. The SM Series corner guards are installed to protect wall corners from damages due to impact from wheelchairs and medical equipment. Installed at a lower height along the walls is the SCR-48N crash rail, which like the corner guards are used to protect the walls from impact from rolling equipment such as hospital beds and wheelchairs. Door protection is also seen on doors at the hospital, it is installed to protect any damages from foot traffic, or any impact caused by carts. Aesthetics was also a key part considered in this project with a customisation of the crash rails installed along the window mullions, even the colours selected for the Acrovyn Wall Protection products steered away from the traditional colours that are seen in healthcare environments. Colours such as Ocean Grey and Black can be seen in different clinical areas of the hospital.
